Can I use my own modem with TDS Telecom?

Yes. TDS Telecom permits customer-owned equipment that meets its published requirements. In their words: "Please note that while our network allows various 3rd party modems, our support is limited when it comes to our ability to fully diagnose and troubleshoot this equipment." And on the equipment page: "If you choose to supply your own modem, Technical Support is not responsible for the configuration or support of it. TDS also cannot guarantee that Internet service will function properly if you use a modem not provided by TDS. If a Repair Technician visits your home for Internet service issues that are found to be related to a non-TDS-provided modem, you may incur charges."

What does TDS Telecom not allow?

TDS TV customers — "If you have TDS TV service, or plan to get it, you will need to use a modem provided by TDS." Fiber customers have no modem to buy at all: fiber requires a TDS-installed ONT ("For Fiber services, your home must be equipped with an ONT (Optical Network Terminal)"), and the customer supplies only a router.
