Can I use my own modem with Midco?

Yes, with a restriction: the device has to appear on Midco's published approved list. In their words: yes, but restricted to Midco-approved devices. "Even if you bring your own modem or router, it must be compatible with our network. See our approved modems list below for details." Midco's legal disclosure states it plainly: "Customers must use Midco-approved equipment. Approved modem lists are available at Midco.com/modems (residential) and business.midco.com (business)." No third-party support: "We're not able to provide technical support for third-party equipment that's not provided by Midco."

Do Midco's requirements change with my speed tier?

"Important: Approved modems may vary depending on address and internet speed. Please enter your address below to ensure you see the correct modems approved for your home." For fiber, minimum router WAN port speed is specified per tier: "For 1 Gbps speeds: a WAN interface with a 1 Gb port or higher"; "For 2 Gbps speeds: a WAN interface with a 2.5 Gb port or higher"; "For 5 Gbps speeds: a WAN interface with a 5 Gb port or higher." Also: "For packages with speeds greater than 2 Gbps, you must purchase your own router with a wide area network (WAN) port to match the speeds you'd like to receive."

What does Midco not allow?

Fiber: the optical network unit is Midco-supplied, not purchasable — "we provide you with an optical network unit (ONU) in your home that delivers your internet connection." Fixed wireless: "Midco provides and installs the antenna for you." So on fiber and fixed wireless there is no modem to buy — only a router. Older devices are also unsupported: "We only provide user guides for currently approved modems. We do not provide user guides for older modems."
